OUR HOSPITALITY

a rock 'n' roll trio of consorts

NEW MUSIC, NEW MOOD

Hey Now!

We here at Camp Hospitality have been hard at work on some new tuneage,  and we thought we'd give you a glimpse inside Our songwriting process.

Check out the video below, the first stage of the OH song factory assembly line - where Dash records a germ, riff or hook of a song into his cellphone (usually while watching NBA basketball). Does he sing Libby's vocal parts in a silly high register?  You betcha.

Many song ideas usually pour out at once, and they're stashed in a folder for a month or so, where they age either like a fine wine or yogurt in the sun.  Once there's twenty or thirty of these song "seeds" in the folder, we go back and listen to them, picking Our favorite 10 or 15 to demo out and talking shit about the ones that don't make the cut.

Then, Dash sits down and tracks out the song in demo form, delivering to Libby and Phil a mixtape from which they write their parts, weigh in on arrangement, and decide what they like.  Then we get into our practice space and actually jam out the songs, learning what works and what doesn't.

About halfway through the mixtape stage now, so OH should have some new tunes ready for the final and most important songwriting stage: playing them Our shows. Only once a song has been gig-tested can we stamp on that seal off approval and put them to record.

Speaking of new tunes, three of Our favorite bands have new music coming soon:

Garbage - 5/15 - Not Your Kind of People
Sigur Ros - 5/29 - Valtari
Rush - 5/29 - Clockwork Angels

So fear not, young champions, good music is out there. The onus is on you to go out and find it and rock the fuck out to it.

Love,
OH

FAT TUESDAY

Dash's ideal swimming pool.

So, it's that time of year again, the dawn of Lent - Fat Tuesday.  We at OH have a special place in our heart for the sumptuous, salty and sweet corners of the food pyramid, and we will be partying tonight in according fashion.  Libs will for sure be nomming on some fro-yo with fruit, dash will probably feast on Inn N Out or Pizza fries.  And Phil, well he doesn't even know what day of the week it is, let alone the religious significance of today, so he'll probably get some sashimi, drink a couple beers, and hit the sack.

In other news, Our Hospitality will be rocking The Viper Room on Friday March 9th.  You can preorder tickets HERE and you can see the event details on Facebook HERE.

Stay tuned to all things OH as we will be posting a sneak preview of one of our brand new songs as we let you in on Our songwriting process.

Please feel free to check out our debut LP as well, Hatfield McCoy available on iTunes and on Vinyl from our store.

Don't forget, Dash supports you in your exercise.  Here he is, cheering you on:

Love you all,

OH.

BACK IN THE SADDLE

Our Hospitality reassembles this week - Libby is back from an out of country work trip (she's a professional assasin), Phil has closed down his pop-up mead shop (cops busted him), and Dash finally had his 5150 hold lifted.

In other words, "We're back."  Let us start by saying, you look great.  I don't know if you have stuck to your resolution or what, but goddamn.  That brings us to an important aside, Our Hospitality fans are decidedly the sexiest, most charming and energetic people.  It has been proven.  With science.

Occasionally, Dash feels bad and let's his horse ride on his back.

We are back at downtown rehearsal this week, preparing for an upcoming gig Feb 9th at The Silverlake Lounge with Italian Japanese and The Cannoneers.  That show is going to be frozen bananas, as we will actually teach hipsters how to move their hips.

As always, if you've yet to pick up our record Hatfield McCoy, click HERE to go to iTunes, and HERE for Amazon.

We love you and we always will.

WILCO AT THE PALLADIUM

Libby is decidedly the biggest Wilco fan in OH.  But Libby is out of the country right now, and her absence couldn't keep Phil and Dash away from the Palladium Tuesday night, when Wilco graced one of Los Angeles' best venues with their emotional deep-dish, meticulous, Chicago-style  rock'n roll.

I will say this about the crowd Tuesday night, not sure if it was the fact that it was a school night or what, but there was not a whole lot of movement or energy in the crowd.  Wilco was fucking rocking out up there, and the crowd was staring at them like a TV set.  Granted there were a lot of dad's with their sons or daughters, ie, it wasn't the most wild demographic, but still it's LIVE MUSIC, PEOPLE!!!  We all shelled out goo money to see an amazing band, why not enjoy it???  Move, shake, sing, rock!!!

Wilco played great as they always do, and they played twenty four songs!!!

Continue supporting amazing bands like Wilco, they are amazing and you will not be disappointed. But you know what?  When you do, it wouldn't kill you to rock out a little bit to let the band know that you're digging it, and help those around you to loosen up. Rock the fuck out!!

ALBUM SALES UP - WE'RE DOWN!

Jobs were still down, but record sales were up all around in 2011 despite the crap economy and the Megauploads and PirateBays of the world.  To everyone's surprise: People are still buying music.

Makes one ponder if the previous decline in sales was a result of the industry's collapse or the lack of honest and substantive music being offered to the public. An OH favorite, Dave Grohl shared similar sentiments recently saying,

Trust this man.

"take the Adele record, for example. It's an amazing record and everybody's so shocked that it's such a phenomenon. I'm not. You know why that record's huge? Because it's fucking good and it's real."

Our Hospitality had a great 2011.  We made our first music video (ANYWHERE), recorded our first LP (HATFIELD-MCCOY) and played a bunch of great shows all over Southern California.  We look forward to making more fucking good music.  We may even play a new tune at our Feb 9 show at The Silverlake Lounge, who knows?

Continue supporting creators of Art in an age when the infrustructure of making music professionally is undergoing a sea change -- Go to shows, buy albums, buy merch, and make merry.
